Goodnight Meowmie was made in 72 hours for round 41 of Ludum Dare. The theme was "Combine 2 Incompatible Genres", so we made a narrative game combining elements from both the virtual pet and horror genres.

- Fix some buggy behavior with the window if you go to it too early
- Slightly decrease movement speed in that scene
- Allow re-entering through doors without going away from the door
  (people were getting confused)
- But add a 1-second timer where you can't immediately re-enter a door to avoid accidents
- Update to Unity 2019 and WebAssembly, update sitelock code
- Fixed a rare bug that could cause player to face the wrong direction in the ending
- Rework audio panning to be less aggressive
- No longer need to check the door again after respawning during the day 2 event
- Tweak threshold for re-entering bed to be less awkward
- Fix overlapping issue with Meowmie and girl sprites
- Add a shadow to Meowmie
- Fix a minor graphical issue affecting some lighting and certain sprites
- Fix unintended noise filtering in first outdoor scene
- Fix muted footsteps at the final scene
- Allow exiting door immediately after dropping Meowmie
- New monster graphic (replaces old one which didn't really tie into the narrative)

- Tweak positioning of Meowmie when being put down from being held
- Slight dialogue tweak for photo frame
- Make girl face right instead of down at beginning of ending sequence
- Redo ending sequence entirely
- Add new outdoor area
- Add small shadow under girl in bright scenes so her legs don't blend in with the background as much
- Add a new event before the last day
- Add some additional interactable items in the bedroom
- Fix an issue preventing portraits from showing up in the credits
- Adjust layering of tilesets so girl and Meowmie don't show above the walls
- Clear Meowmie heart particles when hiding dialogue box
- Cleanup UI initialization so there isn't as much lag when opening the very first UI menu
- Change Cocoa Moss intro background color to gray
- Slightly adjust Meowmie layering compared to girl to avoid weird sorting order
- Adjust Meowmie's interaction box sizing to make it easier to interact when not perfectly lined up

- Fixed a bug introduced in v1.04 that prevented Meowmie from being highlighted properly
- Update eating sounds to be more crispy
- Tweak credits timing, and add new photo at the end of the credits

- Add new feeding animations, dialogue, and sound effects
- Add some particle effects for Meowmie's reactions

- Meowmie now sits up instead of freezing in place when opening the menu

- Fix a dialogue progression bug in day 2 if you respawn after getting food
- Update collision for the litterbox so Meowmie can't hide in the corner
- Adjust Meowmie's starting position for each day
- Make girl face downward properly at the start of the ending sequence
- Fix a layering/missing collision issue with the medicine pot in the ending
- Initialize audio early, to prevent WebGL audio glitch issue at the menu screen
- Slightly tweak music, especially the stretched versions
- Fix a tiny visual glitch in one of the menus
- Minor tweaks on timing and fades
- Add some additional dialogue for the door in the first room if you keep trying to exit
- Tweak doorway transitions to place you further up, so you can't immediately re-enter the door by holding up
- Adjust chase sequence speeds
- Very minor lighting adjustment in one of the later rooms (and add collision to an item in that room)
- Add sfx for feeding Meowmie
- Add a very short fade-in for the menu music, to prevent audio clicking (Unity WebGL audio bug)
- Slightly tweak position of a certain event on day 2
- Girl no longer starts with lamp on in bed on day 5
v1.01b (Jam)
- Remove WebGL 1.0 API support entirely -- the game now won't load unless you have a compatible browser (currently, Chrome or Firefox)
- Fixed an ambient lighting issue that caused the unlit areas of the game to be visible (when they shouldn't have been)
- Fixed (?) a rare animation glitch with Meowmie
- First release

Literally brought me to tears! <33

I had a cat that I lost too soon, and the feelings the girl was telling at the end. Seeing the cat dead/die and just wishing that it was all just a nightmare really hits and can relate so much!!

A truly emotional, heartbreaking, but awesome game <333

GODS this hurt me. I'm curious about the lore in this. Why are there skulls, and what causes the red pawprints?

i was thinking that the skull were to show the dead cat and maybe the red paws are the persons guilt ? but thats just my idea :DD

love the designs within the game and the choice of audio, I love how the game has good pacing for my taste and I love the concept. The medicine part is a bit hard for me to get through but other than that its amazing

I can't get past the first bit where you grab the key. The ghost cat kills me. which is so sad cuz I adore Meowmie

Adorable art.. didn't at all expect the horror elements. I died a LOT in this game. xP But I still liked it.

you're going to have to talk to my therapist for this; nonetheless, the game is phenomenal, i gOT ATTACHED TO THE MEOWMIE SO MUCH I BAWLED- thanks game dev this game is now my 13th reason :')))

este juego es increíble, me hizo sentir tantas cosas que mientras leía los diálogos del final, no  pude evitar llorar, en tan poco tiempo me hiciste tener un gran cariño a unos cuantos dibujos. Realmente tocaste mi corazón con este juego, gracias por crear esta obra de arte <3   :')

I felt a lot of feelings playing this. Fear,  love,  sadness. It hurts to lose the ones you love. And Goodnight Meowmie sums it up perfectly. Thank you.

i also had a suggestion to make a sequel type game to this. Similar,  but with a dog. You could call it goodnight doggie. But that's just an idea... <3
