Goodnight Meowmie was made in 72 hours for round 41 of Ludum Dare. The theme was "Combine 2 Incompatible Genres", so we made a narrative game combining elements from both the virtual pet and horror genres.

about to play this, just reading the comments with all the other pet owners and the ones that have experienced the loss of their beloved kitty and it resonates with me in particular too. I had a beautiful white cat just like meowmie who I have loved dearly for a very long time. I miss him everyday and lost him a short while ago. I'm hoping we can all heal and thank you to the creator of this game for creating something special to all of us.
Do NOT play if you have a white cat like i do. Please. I have to go hold my cat now. You cant just make this for a dare. the devs who had this idea deserve jailtime or something. it hurt. i dont want my spicie kitty to go. i dont want my misty to leave either. now i have to think about that. my therapist is about to go on mat leave and now im stuck with this.
Such a beautiful game. I lost my cat last week and it really does feel like all the colour drains from life and you no longer have your companion and safe place anymore. Really sad, well done, and thought provoking game. Goodnight, Meowmie.

no cuz why did that hit to close to home. my cat died last year due to a coyote. I found him limp on the ground outside at night with blood. I still miss you Chibs, my son, my best friend. I will hold you in my memories...

to the creators: i hate you sm. i hope your pillow is always warm even when you flip it. i hope you dream that youre sitting on a toilet, and you wake up and you peed yourself. this is a true horror game. 10/10

I once played this game but had to finish it in video because it hit close to home. To the creator you've done a lovely job of making the loss and guilt of losing a pet weather or not of old age.

I almost cried. This was so beautifully made... I thought this was like a cute cat game, I was wrong, it turned horror then turned despair real quick. Idk how to feel about this one besides that it's a good game. Thank you (only 50%, because it hurts me seeing animals die) for making this game.

This is a very beautiful game, I love being able to play with Meowmie. The environment does a great job of telling the story. The ending is very lovely and really hits home.
